There was an earthquake in Japan measuring as much as 7.1 magnitude on the Ritcher Scale on July 28. Following this there was loss of several lives and widespread damage to the structures. The aftershocks however continue even today. Rescue operations are underway in the affected areas.

It is worth noting that, as the earthquake in Japan occurred a tsunami warning was also issued. Reports added, first tsunami waves have reached the coast. As many as 45,000 households have been left without electricity. There have reportedly been as many as 20 deaths. Further, this is the strongest earthquake to hit the region since 2016.

Reports say that the rescue operations are getting affected due to the severe heatwave. The rescue is becoming slow and very tough. Majority of the deaths took place in a shopping mall as people remained trapped. Several people reportedly died and dozens were injured and went missing as a shopping center and a huge chimney collapsed, officials said. Reports further added, the stone walls of the Kumamoto Castle also collapsed. Notably several aftershoctks are still being felt in the area and in the cities nearby. This has caused panic among the residents.
