gold mine collapse

More than 100 miners were killed and many others were trapped in a gold mine collapse in Zamboye, a border village between Cameroon and the Central African Republic.

According to reliable reports, the death toll from a gold mine collapse in a western part of Central African Republic has risen to more than 100, a Red Cross volunteer involved in relief efforts and a local official said Wednesday.

It is worth mentioning here that artisanal mine collapses like this one is common in Central African Republic. The death toll is huge generally because the miners do not have protective gear. Reports that these people earn only 2 dollars a day.

Till now local authorities have recovered 107 bodies from the rubble, and search operation is underway. According to officials, the chances of finding survivors are very low due to the lack of specialized equipment.

The video of the incident have become highly viral on social media. The clips clearly show massive amount of rubble sliding down and burying hundreds of people alive.
