Hirakud Dam in Odisha

Hirakud Dam in Odisha opened 16 gates to evacuate flood water as rain increased in upper catchment area, said reports. Currently, flood water is being discharged through 16 gates. 11 gates have been opened on the left bank and 5 gates on the right bank.

Reports further added that, 288,978 cusecs of water is being discharged into the Mahanadi. Similarly, 255,840 cusecs of water is entering the reservoir every second.

Currently, the water level of the Hirakud reservoir is 622.87 feet. Due to the rainfall in various districts of Chhattisgarh, the water level of the Hirakud has increased.

Since the rainfall in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh and Sambalpur districts is also entering the Hirakud dam in Odisha, the water level of the dam is rising.
