Chandipura Virus

In a shocking incident as many as 22 children have lost their lives to the Chandipura virus outbreak in Gujarat. The administration is on high alert and is taking steps to stop the spread of the virus outbreak.

Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya informed that in a presser that the authorities conducted blood tests on 184 patients, including suspected cases. Of them as many as 35 tested positive for Chandipura virus. He further said that, currently seven patients are being treated in the ICU with ventilators and oxygen, under the supervision of a super-specialist doctor. He added, 22 patients have died so far, and that the government expresses their deepest condolences.

The government teams are working to reach as many villages as possible to isolate pesticides. Super-specialist doctors and health teams are conducting tests in all areas where patients are found and also test others and family members.

The Health Minister told ANI about the chandipura vesiculovirus, “A sandfly, an insect or fly, is found everywhere. Chandipura virus disease is caused by its bite. Today, our team in Gandhinagar is in discussions with doctors at all PHCs, CHCs, and civil hospitals across Gujarat regarding treatment, and we hope that not a single patient will die in the hospital right now. Our team and our doctors are working tirelessly.”

However it is worth mentioning here that the virus has no definitive cure. There is no medicine, and no treatment. The treatment is based on symptoms only. This is a developing story, further details awaited.
