Nepal PM Balendra Shah paid tribute to the climbers who lost their lives on Broad Peak avalanche in Pakistan’s Karakoram range. He expressed condolences to the families of the six Nepali and four foreign climbers, including world record holder Nirmal Purja.
Before attempting the Broad Peak climb, Nirmal Purja had written – “If I can successfully climb Broad Peak while staying here, then only ‘Cho Oyu’ will remain. After that, I will become the first person in history to climb all 14 of the world’s eight-thousanders twice without the use of supplemental oxygen.”
The PM of Nepal has shared a Facebook post in this regard, the Post roughly translates as, “Climbing is not just a journey to kiss the peak. This is the supreme expression of courage, discipline, sacrifice and indomitable confidence to challenge human boundaries. The mountains give pride to many people on its peak, sometimes it holds them in their own lap forever. However, mountain climbers remain immortal in history because of their courage and dedication.”
He further added on the Broad peak avalanche, “The tragic demise of six Nepalese and four other foreign climbers including world famous Nirmal Purja (Nims brother) in the 8,051 meter tall ‘Broad Pick’ located in Karakoram Mountain-Srinkhala of the world, is shocked by the tragic demise of Nepalese and four other foreign climbers.”
In conclusion he added, “The physical journey of all the deceased climbers, including Nirmal Purja, has been stopped, but their history of courage, dedication and contribution will always remain inspiring and alive. A heartfelt tribute to all the deceased climbers. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, relatives and well wishers.”
