Hirakud Dam

Hirakud Dam in Odisha opens ten gates to evacuate flood water as incessant rain continues in upper catchment area. Earlier, flood water was being discharged through seven gates. Due to the rise in water level, 3 more gates of Hirakud have been opened.

Now flood water is being discharged through ten gates. The water level of Hirakud dam is 619.87 feet. Due to heavy rain at the upper catchment area, more gates have been opened.

Now flood water is being discharged through ten gates of the Hirakud reservoir. Out of which water is being discharged through seven gates on the left side and three gates on the right side. An average of 2 lakh 1 thousand 710 cusecs of water is entering the reservoir every second, while 1 lakh 44 thousand 59 thousand cusecs of water is being discharged.

Rengali Dam in Odisha has also opened another gate, it is releasing flood water through three gates due to rain in upper catchment areas. The water storage capacity of Rengali Dam is 123.50 meters, while the current stored water level is 123.24 meters.

According to reports in the Rengali Dam in Odisha 5,177 cubic meters of flood water is entering the dam per second. Further, 5,473 cubic meters of flood water is being discharged through three gates and power channels.

Flood fear has been created in the downstream areas due to water entering the tributaries of Brahmani River and canals. The flood warning signal of Jenapur Dam is 22 meters, while the current water level is 22.14 meters.

The danger signal of Panpos Dam is 177.5 meters, while the current water level is 174.68 meters. As a result, the Rengali Dam authorities have warned the downstream areas and riverbanks through public address systems.

In addition, the departmental authorities have informed that flood warnings have been issued to the District Collectors. The four districts that are in danger are Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Kendrapara.
