The administration is monitoring the situation in the Baitarani, Brahmani, Salandi, Jalaka and Budhabalang river basins. Although there are signs of receding water levels in some places, the water levels are above the danger mark at some points in Baitarani and Brahmani.
According to official estimates, it was reported that about 8 lakh people have been affected by the floods and more than 82 thousand people are in shelters. Rescue and relief operations are underway in the flood-affected areas. About 90 rescue teams, including 36 ODRAF, 7 NDRF and 47 fire brigades, have already been deployed in the sensitive areas.
The Water Resources Department is monitoring the embankments and weak spots. According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at some places in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj today. ery heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places in Balasore, Jajpur, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul and Dhenkanal.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh till 8:30 am tomorrow. Heavy rainfall is expected in Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Subarnapur and Balangir.
According to the Meteorological Department, due to heavy rain, waterlogging in low-lying areas, roads are submerged, traffic is affected and flood situation may arise in some river basins. Winds of 45 to 55 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 65 kilometers per hour are possible on the Odisha coast. Fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea as the sea is likely to be rough to very rough.
