The five rare Orangutans found in Odisha have been rescued safely and sent to Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar. The Orangutans were spotted in a jungle in Balasore district of Odisha on 8 September (Tuesday).
The rare apes shall be kept in the HRC or the Hand Rearing Center in the zoo. There they will be taken special care of and will be hand fed and nurtured.
According to reports, in a strange incident, as many as five Orangutans were spotted in Balasore district of Odisha on Tuesday. According to reports, the Orangutans were seen by the locals in a forest in Bhograi Block of Balasore district. They were seen in the Bichitrapur forest
Reports further say that, huge crowds of people gathered in the forest to see the rare species of animals. The major question that everyone was asking is how these rare and exotic creatures entered this jungle in a remote rural area.
The locals immediately informed the Forest department in this regard. The Orangutans found in Odisha was a very rare phenomena. The forest workers reached the spot and rescued them. They have been taken for health check-up.
While smuggling remains a possibility, there is no conclusive evidence yet. Since their natural habitat is tropical rainforests, they could not have migrated there naturally, indicating possible human intervention. Investigations are underway to determine how they arrived there.
It is worth mentioning here that, Orangutans are great apes native to the rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia. Orangutans are the largest arboreal mammals, spending most of their time in trees. They have long, powerful arms and grasping hands.
