Here Is What UPI Says
So what is this feature, according to an official X post by UPI, here is what you need to do to make payments, “Tap your phone and pay with UPI. UPI Tap & Pay brings contactless payment experience to UPI. Just tap your NFC-enabled phone at a compatible terminal, with PIN-less payments up to ₹5,000.”
So all you need to to do is tap your phone to make a payment. The payment can go through even in areas that have no or very weak internet connections. But UPI also says in the X post that the payment amount has to be below Rs. 5000. It will be a completely contactless payment experience.
Here Is What NPCI Says
In an X post NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) talked about the feature and said, “Further simplifying transactions, with just a TAP, UPI Tap & Pay. Just enter the amount and tap your phone to the payee’s UPI Smart QR or UPI Tag and you’re done!” With this the hassle of scanning QR ends right here.
Users can now make quick payments by unlocking their NFC-enabled smartphone and tapping it on an NFC-enabled point of sale (POS) terminal.
How To Use The UPI TAP And Pay
RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra inaugurated the feature. The NPCI claims that the tap and pay feature will work even in areas with low or no internet connection.
The operation is very simple and easy and can be done by everyone. The the best part is you don not need to open an UPI app to use this feature. Simply unlock your phone and take it near the POS machine, and the amount entered will be transferred.
