There is nothing to worry about cases of Scrub typhus in Odisha said the Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling. While interacting with the media earlier today, the minister added that medical teams will be sent for surveillance in the affected areas.
He further refuted the claims of death due to Scrub typhus in Odisha. The Minister further informed that there is nothing to panic in this matter. He informed that, medical teams shall be sent for surveillance in affected areas.
Scrub typhus, also known as bush typhus, is a disease caused by bacteria called Orientia tsutsugamushi. Symptoms of scrub typhus include fever, chills, headache, body aches, a scab-like region at the chigger bite site (eschar), mental changes, enlarged lymph nodes, and rash.
No vaccine is available to prevent scrub typhus. Reduce your risk of getting scrub typhus by avoiding contact with infected chiggers. When traveling to areas where scrub typhus is common, avoid areas with lots of vegetation and brush where chiggers may be found.
Scrub typhus should be treated with the antibiotic doxycycline. Doxycycline can be used in persons of any age. Antibiotics are most effective if given soon after symptoms begin.
