Heavy rain in Odisha

Rainfall in Odisha is likely to continue for the next five days. The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issues a warning in this regard. A yellow warning has been issued in this regard. Rain is likely to continue till August 7, 2026

The Regional Meteorological Centre situated here in Bhubaneswar has issued a Yellow Warning to 25 districts of the state. Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

Impact and action to be taken for the Yellow warning and rainfall in Odisha, here are the points to be considered:

Temporarily water logging is likely in low lying areas and underpass road. Poor visibility during intense spell of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas.

Some damages to kutchha Road and possibility of wall collapsed of vulnerable kutchha houses. Some damages to vegetables and horticultural crops likely. Avoid staying in vulnerable kutchha houses. Advisory on traffic congestion to be followed before leaving for your destination.

The warning further suggests, arrangement for drainage of excess water from nursery bed, preparations for sowing of paddy crops, seed collections may be done.

Further, flood relief in Odisha is underway on war footing. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is directly supervising the entire operation. The government is taking all possible steps to provide flood relief in Odisha to the affected people.

It is worth mentioning here that, the flood in Odisha has now become a matter of concern for the government as over two lakh people across six districts have already been affected. According to the Special Relief Commissioner of Odisha, “more than two lakh three thousand people in 748 villages have been affected, as many as 28 thousand residents have been evacuated.”
