Flood in Kendrapara district of Odisha is likely due to a 50-foot-deep breach in embankment of river Baitarani. Villagers are in a state of panic.
A 50-foot-deep breach in embankment has formed on the Rajkanika Kanpur-Gunthal road in Kendrapara district. As a result, the water of the Baitarani river has now reached the village. Four panchayats are expected to be affected due to the breach.
Floodwaters are rushing towards Kanpur, Gunthal, Manpur and Domand villages at a fast pace. As a result, thousands of hectares of farmland have been submerged. As the flow of water through the breach continues to increase, concern has increased among farmers. There is a risk of crop damage due to floodwater inundating the farmlands.
Since the breach in embankment is a huge one, controlling it is now a big challenge for the administration. If the embankment is not repaired immediately and floodwater is controlled, the area is likely to be submerged further. Meanwhile, fear and apprehension has increased among the residents of three villages after the breach was formed. There is a demand to take immediate steps to protect the people and save the farmers’ crops.
