After the much talked about adulteration of paneer, it is now the turn of rice! Fake rice in Odisha has been seized from Rourkela in Sundargarh district said reports. This seizure has raised major food adulteration concerns yet again.
According to reports, fake rice in Odisha was seized after complaints were received in this regard. So what was actually being done?
The adulteration was being done by manufacturing the packets of branded rice manufacturers. Then these packets were being filled up with local low grade rice grains. This was then being sold at MRP or at a little lower.
Locals raised concerns on the quality of the branded rice and then lodged a complaint. Later a raid was conducted by Rourkela Plantside police station. The SP formed a special team and conducted the raid.
In the raid, fake branded rice packets and fake locals substandard rice was seized. Sealing and weighing equipment was also seized in the raid.

Fake paneer, masala, sauce and now adulterated rice, this has raised major concerns among people.
Recently the selling of analogue or paneer manufactured using chemicals gained much momentum. Regular food raids were conducted to put a check on such chemically manufactured items and now this!
With the festive season ahead, it is necessary to put checks on food adulteration at the earliest. Health concerns related to spurious food products need to be addressed on priority basis.
