Renowned singer and vocalist Pranab Patnaik passed away on Friday, said reports. He breathed his last at the age of 88. He had a special identity in the world of Odia music. With his sweet voice and unique singing style, he had created a special place in the hearts of the listeners.
Pranab Patnaik, started his musical journey with the film ‘Maa’ in 1958. He has enriched the world of Odia music with his sweet voice for decades. He won the hearts of millions of listeners by singing not only film songs, but also Odissi, Bhajans, semi-classical, modern, Palli geet and Ghazals.
Among his legendary songs there are timeless tunes like “Mo Priya Hai Ki Sundar”, “Man Manena”, “Sita Ram Naam”, “Au Kakhanna Kakhanna” and “Tume Janana Ki Ji Janana” are very popular.
For his unparalleled contribution to the field of Odia music, he was honored with the state’s highest film honor, ‘Jayadev Award’, in 2016. His passing away has created an irreplaceable void in the world of art and culture of Odisha.
It is worth mentioning here that Odisha CM Mohan Majhi has condoled the death of the legendary singer. He took to X and wrote in Odia that roughly translates as, ” I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the great vocalist Pranab Pattnayak, who had enchanted all of Odisha with his soul-stirring voice. This unparalleled musical maestro, adorned with numerous honors such as the Jayadev Award, the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and the State Film Award, has left an irreplaceable void in the world of Odia art and culture with his demise.
The enchanting melody of his mellifluous voice and his timeless compositions will forever remain immortal in the hearts of every Odia. In this hour of grief, I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and countless admirers, while praying to Lord Sri Jagannath for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
