Odisha launches e challan

Odisha launches e challan for AI based traffic management, this means that now the fines in case of traffic violations will be directly detected by cameras. The challans will be send directly to the violators without any human intervention.

The Odisha Transport Department explained the process and said, “The Intelligent Enforcement Management System (IEMS) project aims to assist planning and monitoring the vehicular movements across the designated Highway Road in Odisha and drive the
enforcement management through sophisticated information and communication technology equipment and systems, and control system software.”

The government further added, “Intelligent Enforcement Management thus refers to the use of technology (computing, communications, and sensors) to optimize the movement
of vehicles over transport networks. This optimization covers areas as automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). Addressing these problems requires the use of video surveillance technology and specialized software applications.”

The government of Odisha said that, “IEMS Project will involve sophisticated information and communication technology equipments and system, which will monitor the vehicular movement across the traffic and road network in Odisha and drive the enforcement management.”

As a pilot project Odisha launches e challan, the IEMS Project will be implemented in around 100 km stretch on NH-16 between Panikoili to Rameswar wherein the ANPR cameras will be installed and commissioned to detect vehicles for over speeding, Triple riding, wrong lane movement, without helmet, rash driving etc and fine the vehicle as per MV Act and Rules.

The State Transport Authority (STA) has notified speed limits for four-lane highways as 60 kmph for two-wheelers, 100 kmph for light motor vehicles, 80 kmph for heavy vehicles. On the other hand on two-lane highways as 50 kmph for two-wheelers, 60 kmph for light motor vehicles and four-wheelers.
