A major wood shortage in Swargadwar of Puri district of Odisha has added woes to the already distressed relatives of the deceased. Reports say that relatives had to wait for almost four hours to cremate the bodies of their loved ones.
According to reports, the wood shortage at Swargadwar in Puri led to major discontentment among those waiting to cremate their dead. The staff at the cremation ground kept assuring the people waiting that wood would arrive any moment, but there was no avail from the situation. The wait lasted for more than five hours for a few families.
It is worth mentioning that as the name suggests, ‘Swargadwara’ means the ‘gate to heaven’. Not only is it a place to cremate the dead but also a popular religious tourist spot. People flock in huge numbers to Swargadwar to pay regards to the departed souls. Not only people from Puri but all over Odisha wish to be cremated at Swargadwar. It is believed that if one is creamated there then he or she becomes free from the bonds of rebirth.
The distressed families and the visitors have requested the authorities to step in and solve the issue at the earliest. It is noteworthy that, it is the first time ever that such an incident has happened at Swargadwar. Further detailed report awaited.
