Orange warning issued for heavy rain in Odisha due to low pressure area in Andaman Sea. Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds of up to 40-60 kmph has been predicted. Moderate rain 5-15 mm/h very likely over some districts in Odisha.

IMD has issued warning for heavy rain in Odisha in the following districts: Balangir, Baragarh, Bauda, Deogarh, Gajapathi, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kendujhar, Khordha, Nuaparha, Puri, Sambalpur, Subarnapur and Sundargarh.

IMD has warned people and said that residents in the affected regions are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions. Do not take shelter under trees or weak structures etc.

People have been advised to check road and traffic conditions, avoid unnecessary travels. IMD asks people to follow any other advisories issued by concerned agencies. Fishermen are advised to return to the coast by evening of September 20.

A low-pressure area has formed in the Andaman Sea. The low-pressure area has taken the form of a cyclonic circulation over the North Andaman Sea and its adjacent areas. The meteorological department has indicated that the low-pressure area formed yesterday evening and it will bring heavy rain in Odisha.

IMD further added, is very likely to move west-northwestward and intensify gradually into a depression over East-Central Bay of Bengal on September 21. And it is likely to convert into a deep depression over West-Central Bay of Bengal on September 22. However, the IMD has asked people not to panic about the cyclone in Odisha and not to believe in rumors. Further details awaited.
