New cyclone named as ‘cyclone Arnab’. Yesterday’s upper-air cyclonic circulation over north Thailand emerged over north Andaman Sea and neighbourhood at 1200 UTC of same day.
The circulation extended upto 7.6 km above mean sea level at 0000 UTC and persisted over the same region at 0300 UTC of 19th September, 2026.
Under its influence, a Low Pressure area is very likely to form over the same region around the 1200 UTC of today.
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify gradually into a depression over east central Bay of Bengal. This is likely on 21st and into a deep depression over west central Bay of Bengal on 22nd September.
Continuing to move west-northwestwards it is very likely to reach west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal near south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts around 0300 UTC of 23rd September.
Scattered to broken low and medium clouds with embedded intense to very intense convection over northeast Bay of Bengal adjoining Arakan Coast, south Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, Gulf of Martaban and Tenasserim Coast.
Scattered low and medium clouds with embedded moderate to intense convection over northwest and central Bay of Bengal.
Path Of Cyclone Arnab
The IMD informs that the path of the cyclone is yet to be ascertained. Hence there is no reason to panic for cyclone for the people of Odisha.

Reports say that, as many as twenty districts issued a yellow alert. All of these districts will experience rain along with lightning and thunderstorms.
Furthermore, sources say that the government of Odisha is ready for any eventuality. It is is keeping a close watch on the movement of the cyclonic circulation that is currently hovering near Thailand.
The Government is taking stock of the situation every hour. It is also waiting for the final assessment by the IMD for the cyclone in Odisha. Discussions held with IMD officials and their regional representatives in Odisha.
On the other hand, all District Collectors have been directed to remain fully prepared to face any kind of situation.
