There has been a landslide in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, say reliable reports. The minor landslide has reportedly occurred due to heavy and continuous rain in the upper areas.
Notably the landslide in Rudraprayag has occurred in the upper area of the 900-metre-long tunnel. The tunnel is being constructed to link the Kedarnath and Badrinath highways. There has been a landslide in its upper section due to continuous rainfall. In addition to the tunnel, construction of a 200-metre-long bridge is also being undertaken in the same project.
On Wednesday, the District Magistrate Vishal Mishra inspected the site of the ongoing tunnel and bridge construction. This is a long awaited project and will link the Kedarnath and Badrinath highways.
The DM informed that a minor landslide had occurred near the outer section of the tunnel. The Public Works Department has been directed to carry out proper repair work and has been instructed to remove the unstable portions. He also added that rain has been a deterrent in the entire construction project. However he expected that load testing of the project will be undertaken soon.
It is worth mentioning here that there has been no loss of human life in the landslide in Rudraprayag. Reports further added that, Char Dham, Hemkund Sahib Yatra has been halted. The weather department has issued an Orange alert for tomorrow (July 30). Hundreds of roads, including as many as three National Highways and six State Highways have been closed due to landslides. Several rivers have touched danger mark in the State.
