In an unfortunate incident, the news of a young fire fighter electrocuted in Odisha has been widely shared and the incident has been condoled by the Chief Minister. The deceased has been identified as Chandan Pattnayak. It has been reported that the death took place in Keonjhar district. The fire fighter died of electrocution while on duty, this was confirmed by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari. However, there have been a total of three deaths and all the three have occurred in Keonjhar district.
The deaths have been confirmed by the Minister while addressing the press about the flood situation in Odisha. Minister Suresh Pujari reviewed the flood situation with the Chief Secretary, the Special Relief Commissioner and Collectors of flood-affected districts to assess the impact, monitor relief operations and coordinate response measures. He said other than the fire fighter electrocuted in Odisha during flood duty there have been two other deaths. One is an elderly man was killed in a wall collapse, and the other is a child’s body was found floating in the floodwaters. According to the Special Relief Commissioner of Odisha, “more than two lakh three thousand people in 748 villages have been affected, as many as 28 thousand residents have been evacuated.”
It is worth mentioning here that the the incident of the fire fighter electrocuted in Odisha has been condoled by the CM on his official X handle. The CM has posted on X in Odia which roughly translates as, “I am deeply heartbroken to learn of the untimely demise of Agni Samma employee Chandan Pattnayak in a most unfortunate accident while he was on duty.” Further Mohan Charan Majhi has added, “Along with conveying my profound condolences to the bereaved family members during this difficult time, I pray to Lord Shri Jagannath for the eternal peace of his departed soul.”
