According to the Meteorological Department, a low-pressure area is active over southwest Madhya Pradesh and the adjoining region. Under its influence, the monsoon trough line extends across Odisha towards the Bay of Bengal.
In the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall in Odisha is likely in districts across southern and coastal belt. The places include Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh.
A ‘Yellow Warning’ has been issued for this region due to expected wind speeds of 30–40 kmph accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, and Gajapati by the September 15.
Additionally, alerts for rain accompanied by thunderstorms have been issued for several districts. A ‘Yellow Warning’ for heavy rainfall remains in effect for the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Gajapati on the September 16. People have been advised to remain alert due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, and Gajapati.
