Fishermen rescue newborn elephant calf from river, the video of the entire act goes viral. People from all walks of life have praised the fishermen for their act of kindness.
Reports say that, the incident took place near Gajoldoba in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. A newly born calf got swept away downstream. This happened while its herd was trying to cross the swollen Teesta River.
Five fishermen from the North Bengal rowed against the river currents and the strong flow as the river is in full spate. The fishermen did not spare a moment’s thought. They then reached the calf and lifted the calf into their boat.
They then-brought it to river banks. The forest officials were then informed about the entire incident. The Forest officials took care of the newborn calf for a little while and then managed to search for the herd.
They then reunited the calf with her mother. The mother was delighted to find her calf and on a dry riverbed stretch she nursed it right away.
Forest officials on the other hand heaped praise on the fishermen. They lauded the bravery and heartwarming gesture. The video of the fishermen rescue newborn elephant calf has gone viral and has been widely shared on all social media platforms.
