Cyclone Arnab Update: Due to the impact of the deep depression in Chilika. Chilika has become turbulent due to strong winds and high waves. Due to this, many boats anchored in the Chilika lake have broken or have sunk.
The impact of Deep Depression is especially visible in Brahmagiri and Krishnaprasad areas. Due to the increase in wind speed and high waves in Chilika, boats tied on the shore have become unuseable.
Fishermen’s boats of Arakhkudar Mangalasahi and Laxminarayan Sahi of Krishnaprasad block have sunk in Chilika. Some boats have also been damaged. As a result, the fishermen are a worried lot.
Boats are the main means of livelihood of fishermen. Therefore, there is a risk that their livelihood will be affected due to the sinking and breaking.
As the weather remains turbulent due to the effect of Deep Depression, the administration and the Meteorological Department have warned fishermen not to go to Chilika. In such situations, along with the safety of fishermen, damage to boats is also being monitored.
Earlier Steps Taken For Safety In Chilika
It is worth mentioning here that, boat traffic on the Satpada to Jahnikuda route in Chilika Lake will be temporarily closed from September 23 to September 25. In case of heavy rain, the water of Chilika Lake may become turbulent.
Keeping in mind the safety of passengers and the cyclone Arnab update the Chilika Development Authority has closed boat traffic between Satpada and Kahnikuda. All boaters have been asked to park their boats in safe places.
During heavy rain, there is a possibility of high waves and increased wind speed. In such a situation, boat traffic has been stopped, giving priority to the safety of passengers and boatmen.
The Chilika Development Authority has also temporarily stopped the draft bridge and other boat traffic plying between Satpada and Jhannikuda.
However, due to the closure of boat traffic, people who travel daily on the Satpada to Jhannikuda route will have to face temporary difficulties. For safety reasons, passengers have been advised to follow the instructions of the administration and not to enter Chilika during such unpredictable weather.
