The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has declared a day-long bank strike across the country today. They have declared the strike citing various reasons. The main being a 5-day work week.
According to reports, their demands range from delays in implementing the five-day work week, differences over the Performance-Based Incentive (PLI) scheme and other demands not being met.
Bank services will be affected for four days. The strike is on Friday while the next day is second Saturday so it is a holiday. Then is Sunday and Monday will be holiday for Ganesh Puja. Work will be affected mainly in state-run banks on these days. UFBU Odisha President said as many as 70,000 employees from Odisha will participate in the strike. The President of UFBU informed that all arrangements have been made so that the customers do not face any inconvenience.
However, the UFBU has prepared a long-term plan to meet the demands. If the demands are not met after the one-day nationwide strike, then a strike will be held from September 28 to September 30.
It is worth mentioning here that, it was decided in 2024 to implement a five-day work week for all bank employees. It was said that all Saturdays would be holidays. But since that decision has not been implemented yet, the employees have resorted to protest.
