In a remarkable development, DGCA approves FTOS to strengthen domestic pilot training capacity. This move shall help to reduce reliance on foreign flying schools. ANI reports that, the Airports Authority of India has successfully completed the tender process for 11 new Flying Training Organisation (FTO) slots at seven of its airports.

The process was done under the latest e-tender round launched in February 2026. DGCA approves FTOS via the technical bids that were opened on 30 April 2026 and financial bids on 22 May 2026.

Reports further added that, the entire process was successful for all sites, the Airport Authorities of India (AAI) documents stated.

It is worth mentioning here that, currently India has 41 DGCA approved FTOs operating from 63 flying bases (as of April 2026). Without faster expansion of domestic training capacity the growing demand cannot be met sustainably the AAI note warned.

Reports say that, the step will help reduce the dependence on foreign schools and bring the system to India. This will make pilot training mor approachable and easy to undergo. As DGCA approves FTOs the step is sure to bring a boost.
