There was a massive earthquake in Peru of magnitude 7.2 in the Ayacucho region on Thursday, said reliable reports.

Reports say, the Geophysics Institute of Peru (IGP) reported that the quake occurred at 1:00 p.m. local time, centered 35 km north of Coracora at a depth of 108 km. It further added, the tremor was strongly felt across several southern regions and in high-rise buildings in Lima.

Further, the earthquake in Peru shook the southern Andean region of Peru, located 35 kilometers north of Coracora, Parinacochas province (Ayacucho department). It had a focal depth of 108 km. The seismic event was widely felt in various regions of the south and center of the country. The areas include Arequipa, Ica, Cusco, Abancay, and the capital, Lima.

It is worth mentioning here that, the authorities are currently assessing potential damage. The number of deaths and injuries is yet to be ascertained. This is a developing story, further detailed reports awaited.
