Two gates of Hirakud Dam were closed after the amount of rainfall in the upper catchment area decreased. Now the flood water is being discharged through 15 gates of the reservoir.
Earlier, the flood water was being discharged through 17 gates. Now, flood water is being discharged through 15 gates. Currently, the water level of the Hirakud reservoir is 621.52 feet. 257,936 cusecs of water is entering the reservoir per second, while 268,983 cusecs of water is being discharged.
Due to the decrease in the amount of rainfall in the upper catchment area there has been a change in the amount of water entering the reservoir. Keeping this in mind, the Water Resources Department has closed two gates.
On the other hand, the water level of the reservoir depends on rainfall at the upper end of the Hirakud dam, and the amount of water inflow and outflow are being monitored. A decision will be made to open or close further gates depending on the situation.
