The State Transport Authority of Odisha has advised vehicle owners to check the status of their statutory documents before driving vehicles on public roads, as the e-Detection system might catch the violators and impose hefty fines.
As per reports, the e-detection system in Odisha has come into force from September 1, 2026. Now the system will not only detect vehicles without valid PUCC and insurance, but will generate e-challans in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 and the prescribed electronic enforcement procedure.
The owners driving their vehicles without valid statutory documents can’t escape traffic challans anymore as they will be identified electronically. So they are advised to check the validity of these documents before taking their vehicles on public roads and must renew them immediately if necessary.
The Transport Department has also highlighted the provisions relating to pending e-Challans. If the imposed fines remain outstanding even after the statutory period is over, they can be flagged as ‘Not to be Transacted’ on the authorized portal. This might lead to future consequences. Hence, the department has advised the vehicle owners to settle the challans within the stipulated time.
The State Transport Authority has further clarified that the e-Detection system has been implemented to strengthen traffic norms and has advised the vehicle owners to check the status of their documents through authorized government portals.
