Cyclone Arnab update: Deep depression likely to cross Andhra Pradesh-Odisha Coast tonight. A red alert has been issued to the concerned districts in both Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
In an important cyclone Arnab update, the system is expected to cross the coast between 5 pm on September 23 and 5 am on September 24. The landfall will most likely be before midnight of September 23.
Reports say that, the coastal crossing process will begin within 3-4 hours. The deep depression is moving west-northwestward at a speed of 7 km per hour, centered approximately 30 km south-southeast of Kalingapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and 160 km southwest of Gopalpur.
It is likely to maintain its movement towards the west-northwest direction and cross near Kalingapatnam. or, to the southwest of Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur, into the coastal areas of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha within the next 3 to 4 hours.
Due to the heavy rain, there is a possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas, local flooding, landslides in hilly areas. Further disruption of road and rail traffic and damage to weak houses, trees and electricity poles.
People in districts with red and orange warnings have been asked to stay indoors during heavy rains and avoid going to riverbanks and low-lying areas.
