Ganja plantation in Odisha to be strictly monitored. Strict action shall be taken against cultivation of cannabis on Government land. A letter in this regard has been issued by the Additional Chief Secretary of Odisha to the Collectors of six districts.

On ganja plantation in Odisha the subject of the letter read, ” Immediate action to prevent illegal cannabis (ganja) cultivation on government land for the 2026-27 season.” This letter has been issued to Collectors of six districts namely, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh, and Gajapati by Dr. Aravind Kumar Padhee, IAS Additional Chief Secretary to Government.

The letter further read, “Persons engaged in illegal cannabis cultivation have a tendency to return to the same land patches season after season, particularly in remote and inaccessible areas where surveillance remains inadequate,”

It warned, “Any officials found conniving with vested interests or mafia elements will face stringent disciplinary/criminal action,” The district collectors were also asked to monitor the action taken by the field-level functionaries to prevent illegal ganja cultivation.

With this, step the Odisha government has stepped up its crackdown on illegal ganja cultivation on government land.
