EV boats in bhitarkanika

EV boats in Bhitarkanika will soon be available for the tourists. The government has approved a pilot project. In the first phase, the government will be spending Rs 5 crore to run five boats. Itf the move is successful then more boats will be procured.

With regard to EV boats in Bhitarkanika a meeting has been held between the boat owners operating on the Bhitarkanika river, the District Collector, the DFO and the MLA. There are 21 government boats and 60 private boats to ferry tourists through the river channels through the waterways of Gupti, Khola, Dangmala, and Chandbali.

It is worth mentioning here that the noise and the air pollution from the boats running on diesel and petrol affect the wildlife and flora and fauna of Bhitarkanika. Therefore, the government has decided to run EV boats.

Furthermore, for those who want to buy EV boats, the government has promised to give 50 percent of the money, i.e. Rs. 50 lakh, as a subsidy. The domestic boat owners welcomed the decision. While the number of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Bhitarkanika is increasing with each passing day. Government reports say as many as 98,036 tourists visited Bhitarkanika in the year 2025-26.
