The Shree Jagannath Greenfield International Airport project in Puri gets the much awaited Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) clearance. The proposed Sri Jagannath Greenfield International Airport in Shipsrubali Mouja on Brahmagiri road has taken one step forward. And this was one of the most awaited approvals.
The pending issue relating to the forest department for the construction of the airport has been resolved and CRZ clearance has also been obtained. Following this major approval, the Puri District Magistrate has said that the airport construction work will start soon. The work will be done in collaboration with the Airport Authority of India and the Commerce and Transport Department.
Reports say that, the Stage 1 permission had been obtained for the airport. A report was submitted for the airport after fulfilling the conditions. A total of 1164.754 acres of land has been acquired, out of which, 221.891 acres is private land and the remaining 942.863 acres is government land. A total of 129 families will be displaced from both Shipsrubali and Belpur Mouja.
It is worth mentioning here that, the Union Environment Ministry’s Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) had earlier postponed the approval for Puri Airport. The main reason for the postponement was to protect the Olive Ridley turtle, Irrawaddy dolphin and migratory birds.
The total cost of construction of the Jagannath Greenfield International Airport in Puri has been estimated to be around roughly Rs. 5,631 crore.
