Cyclone Arnab Update: The landfall occurred around midnight near Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Exactly between North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha coasts between Vishakhapatnam and Gopalpur, close to Southwest of Kalingapatnam. The landfall process continued for 3 hours. The wind speed was 75 kmph during landfall.
According to reports, the sea surged approximately 5 meters. Heavy rainfall occurred in south Odisha due to impact. Red alert has been issued for Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri. The MeT has added that the next 12 hours are critical for Odisha.
The deep depression near the North Andhra Pradesh coast has moved west-northwest at a speed of 3 kilometers per hour in the last 6 hours. In the latest cyclone Arnab update it is said that yesterday 11 PM to today (24 September) early morning 1 AM (01:00 hours), it has shifted to the south-southwest direction of Visakhapatnam.
From Ganjam and Gajapati to Koraput and Kalahandi, incessant rain has thrown normal life out of gear across southern Odisha. Kalinga Ghat has been sealed due to rain. Fearing heavy rain, the administration has barricaded and sealed Kalinga Ghat.
Due to the heavy rain, there is a possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas, local flooding, landslides in hilly areas. Further disruption of road and rail traffic and damage to weak houses, trees and electricity poles.
People in districts with red and orange warnings have been asked to stay indoors during heavy rains and avoid going to riverbanks and low-lying areas.
