Nationwide bank strike from September 28 to September 30. However, banks to remain open on Sunday that is September 27,
for convenience of customers.
In view of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) from September 28 to September 30, 2026, coinciding with the preceding weekend holidays of September 26 and 27. The government has taken proactive steps to safeguard the banking needs of citizens.
In order to ensure that the genuine banking needs of the public are not adversely affected for an extended period, all Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will function normally on September 27, 2026 that is Sunday.
The Reserve Bank of India has granted approval for all bank branches, offices, ATM-link branches and Currency Chests to remain fully operational on September 27.
The Finance Department reiterates that the welfare and convenience of bank customers remains the Government’s foremost priority. Due to the nationwide bank strike from September 28 the decision to remain open on Sunday has been taken.
The Government and bank managements have appealed to unions to defer the proposed strike. They have also taken measures to ensure that essential banking services continue un-interrupted.
Earlier Nationwide Bank Strike
Earlier on September 11, United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) had declared a day-long bank strike across the country.
Bank services were affected for four days then. The strike was on Friday while the next day was second Saturday so it was a holiday.
Then Sunday and Monday were holidays for Ganesh Puja. Work was affected mainly in state-run banks on these days. UFBU Odisha President said as many as 70,000 employees from Odisha will participate in the strike. The President of UFBU had informed that all arrangements had been made so that the customers do not face any inconvenience.
