There has been a raid on food stalls in Cuttack, the police and the Cuttack Municipal Corporation conducted joint a joint raid.
Raids were conducted on various fast food stalls, breakfast shops and hotels in Cuttack High Court Square and Chandini Chowk areas.
The Cuttack Municipal Corporation Health Department conducted a surprise raid. The team inspected stale food and adulterated food. The Health Department team along with the local police joined the inspection.
The Health Department team inspected various restaurants, fast food, breakfast shops, chaat, momo, gupchup, sweet corn and dahibara shops in the High Court Chowk and Chandini Chowk areas.
The shopkeepers in the raid on food stalls in Cuttack have been fined by the Health Department team due to poor quality of food and food containing adulterated food. Along with this, the food license of the shops was inspected by the Food License Officer.
Regular Raids In Bhubaneswar and Cuttack
Food raids have become common in the cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack after the allegation of fake paneer being sold in large quantities.
There were regular complaints of stale and adulterated food being sold in stalls across the twin cities. Hence, the administration took note and started conducting regular raids and surprise checks.
Recently in a raid in Bhubaneswar, the Food Safety Team of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has conducted checking at hotels, eateries and food establishments across the Unit-2 area. During the inspections, major lapses in hygiene and food safety standards were observed.
A total of six establishments were raided, with approximately 40 kg of stale and expired food being destroyed.
At a popular retail mart, around 30 kg of frozen expired food products were seized. While in the BMC raid expired food products of various brands were also destroyed on the spot. Further, a fine of Rs. 1 lakh was imposed on the outlet for the violations.
