In a major development, Meta has agreed to report child safety related matters to Government of India. Meta has further agreed to report child sexual abuse cases to law enforcement agencies in India.
According to reports, Meta agrees to report child safety to Government of India as the govt is continuously engaging with social media platforms to curb harmful information. Online safety of children is a fundamental principle for any social media to operate in India, and it is non-negotiable.
It is worth mentioning that, Meta agrees to report child safety related matters to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. It is a first step towards making the platforms safe for children, and much more needs to be done.
Further, the government of India is engaged with other platforms to proactively identify and remove such content. The Government shall also take action against platforms that do not take proactive steps for the safety of children online.
