New Guidelines Issued For Compensation For School Children In Odisha

The School and Mass Education Department has issued new guidelines for the ‘Ex-Gracia Grant Fund’ for the protection and financial assistance of students. The previous 2015 rules have been amended and its scope has been expanded.

Earlier, facilities were provided to students of classes one to eight. Now, students of all government, government-aided schools, Odisha Adarsh Vidyalayas and Mining Adarsh Vidyalayas can get this facility.

According to the departmental notification, in case of death or permanent disability of a student due to road accident while coming or returning from home to school, any accident inside the school building, food poisoning after eating mid-day meal or any incident during any school activity, a compassionate allowance of Rs. 2 lakh will be provided.

Similarly, if the child is admitted to the district headquarters hospital after the accident and is treated for more than three days, an assistance of up to Rs. 10,000 will be provided.

In Case Of Treatment In Government Hospitals

However, all the treatment of injured students in government hospitals will be completely free. This expenditure will be borne from Ayushman Bharat, Chief Minister’s Relief Fund or Red Cross Fund.

According to the new rules, the mother of the student will be given first priority in providing this financial assistance. If the mother is not alive, the father will get this amount. If both the parents are not alive, the legal guardian identified by the District Magistrate will get this amount.

As soon as the incident occurs, the Principal of the concerned school will send an investigation report to the District Education Officer (DEO) through the Block Education Officer (BEO). After the approval of the District Magistrate (DM), the money will be transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiary from the fund available with the DEO within 24 hours of the accident.
