There were reports of adulterated paneer being sold in Odisha. After a raid in Cuttack, the food inspection team conducted a raid in Berhampur.
As adulteration was detected, a large quantity of paneer, khoya and milk was destroyed by the Berhampur Municipal Commission’s food safety department. Today, a team of the BEMC food safety department raided more than 5 paneer and milk shops in Khaspa and Aga Sahi in the city.
During the raid, some of the cottage cheese kept for sale in the shop was taken out on a plate. After iodine was added to the paneer on the plate, the color of the cheese changed. This made it clear that the cheese was adulterated.
Similarly, after a chemical was added to the khoya being sold in the shop, it turned black. This made it clear that the khoya was also adulterated. Similarly, the shopkeeper had also kept expired milk packets for sale in the shop. Due to this, a large quantity of paneer, khoya and milk was destroyed by the BEMC’s food safety department.
During the inspection, the shopkeepers who were selling adulterated food items were warned. Their registration certificates were cancelled for the next seven days. Such crackdown will continue in the coming days as well, informed the food safety department official.
