Online cab drivers protest

The Online cab drivers protest in lower PMG area of Bhubaneswar yesterday turned violent. The area seemed like a battle field. This led to more than 100 arrests and the cancellation of licences of as many as 400 cabs.

Police have seized 354 vehicles during the online cab drivers protest. Seven FIRs have been registered in Kharavelanagar police station in this regard. Two on the basis of complaints from the public, four on the basis of complaints from Ama Bus employees and one FIR has been registered on the basis of complaint from police personnel.

After the law and order situation deteriorated during the protest in Master Canteen and the police were attacked, the Commissionerate Police entered action mode. The police have clarified that strict action will be taken against anyone who takes the law into their hands and creates violence as per the law.

After the illegal encroachment, chaos and roadblocks that took place at the Master Canteen square in the capital on Wednesday, the Bhubaneswar RTO-1 has started the process of cancelling the permits.

The online cab drivers protest at Master Canteen caused serious disruption in public transport. During this time, there have been allegations of vandalism and destruction of many government properties including CRUT / Aam buses.

Preliminary investigation of police records, CCTV footage and seizure list has revealed that more than 400 autorickshaws were used to block the roads and the said vehicles have been identified and seized by the police administration.

In this context, the Bhubaneswar-1 RTO has issued show-cause notices to all the registered owners and permit holders concerned. The order has been issued to provide information regarding who was in control of the vehicle at the time of the incident and whether it was used with the permission, direction or knowledge of the owner.
