Odisha CM announces relief package

Odisha CM announces relief package of Rs. 1,000-crore for six flood affected districts. The relief package came at a time when fresh flood tension looms over northern Odisha.

Odisha CM announces relief package after carefully assessing the situation in the flood-affected areas.  A separate assistance package of Rs. 1,000 crore has been announced for normalizing the daily lives of affected families, rehabilitation, and compensation.

The security of livelihoods, restoration of infrastructure, and fulfilment of the needs of affected families are the primary priorities of the government. In the current floods, assistance of Rs. 5,000 will be provided for damaged equipment and machinery in the handicrafts and handloom sectors, and Rs. 5,000 for losses to raw materials/prepared goods.

Along with immediate temporary repairs to road embankments and infrastructure, permanent reconstruction will be carried out following a preliminary assessment.

Distribution of relief rice along with dry and cooked food will continue until the situation returns to normal. Financial assistance will also be provided to affected families for daily wear clothing and household utensils-crockery.

“Providing immediate assistance to the affected, restoring livelihoods, and normalizing public life are the primary priorities of the people’s government,” an X post on the official CMO handle read.

Further it is worth mentioning here that, the flood-affected farmers will be provided with immediate assistance and agricultural input subsidy of Rs. 8,500/hectare for irrigable areas, Rs. 17,000/hectare for irrigated areas and Rs. 22,500/hectare for perennial crops for crop loss of 33% or more.

Irrigation projects will be restored with DBT assistance for paddy and non-paddy seeds, free vegetable mini-kits and 75% subsidy for pest and disease management.

Assistance will also be provided for loss of livestock, boats, nets and ponds. Short-term Kharif loans of willing farmers will be converted into medium-term loans. Flood relief, post-loss recovery and farmers’ livelihood security are the priority of the  government, the CM informed.
