Why Lord Shiva is Worshipped in the Month SHravan
Shravan month or Shravan masa is that time of the Hindu calendar when devotees of Lord Shiva adhere to several rituals. They (Kanwariyas) carry water from long distances on foot and pour that water on the head of Shiva to appease the Lord.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva drank the deadly Halahala poison that emerged during the churning of the cosmic ocean to save the universe. Devotees offer water, milk, and Bilva (Bel) leaves to express gratitude and devotion.
