Someone occupied your seat?
Have you ever arrived at your confirmed train seat only to find it has been pre-occupied by someone else? Don’t panic or get into an argument. There are official ways to handle the situation.
Don't get into an argument
It's obvious to get into an argument when someone refuses to leave your seat. But arguing or creating a scene doen't solve your problem. Stay calm and follow the proper complaint process.
SHOW THEM YOUR CONFIRMED TICKET
Make sure to keep your confirmed ticket or reservation details ready before boarding the train. Your ticket is proof that the seat has been allotted to you for the journey. Show them the ticket quietly.
approarch the tte
The first person you need to talk is the TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner), present in your coach. Show him your ticket and explain that someone else has forcibly occupied your reserved seat.
TTE Will ask them to vacate
The TTE will verify your confirmed reservation and instruct the unauthorized passenger to vacate the seat. If they refuse, necessary action can be taken as per railway norms.
what if there is no tte in your coach
In case you don't find the TTE present in your coach, don't search for him through the train. You have alternative ways available. Seek assistance through the railway's passenger helpline.
call railway helpline no. 139
Remember Railway Helpline Number 139? You can call on this numberfor assistance, if you don't have access to the internet or a smartphone. Follow the options for passenger assistance or security-related help.
keep your pnr always ready
Keep your PNR number and reservation details ready before making a complaint. These details will help railway officials for prompt action and resolve the issue.
use the railmadad app
You can also use the RailMadad app, in case you don't find the TTE. Open the RailMadad app or website, enter your PNR details and select the option related to 'Unauthorized Occupation'. Submit and wait for the Railway Officials at the next station.
don't fight, report
A confirmed reserved berth means the seat has been allotted to you. So instead of arguing and ruining your journey, report the issue to appropriate Railways Authorities through proper assistance channel.
