Floods wreak havoc in 7 districts of Odisha

Due to monsoon and back to back low-pressures over Bay of Bengal there has been incessant rain in Odisha. This has led to flood like situation in most parts of the State. Many villages have been marooned and several thousand people have been affected.

The administration has left no stone unturned to better the grim situation being faced by people. The Baitarani, Brahmani, Salandi, Jalaka and Budhabalang rivers are being regularly monitored. In most of the rivers the water is either touching the danger mark or flowing over it.

Let’s Check A Few Districts In The State Of Odisha That Have BeenBadly Affected By Floods

Balasore:  In Balasore, heavy rain has affected  a number of blocks, while parts of the district have experienced inundation. Several villagers are suffering as water level of Jalaka river has crossed the danger mark. NDRF team have been deployed for relief and rescue operations.

Bhadrak: In Bhadrak, the rising Baitarani has disrupt normal life. Floodwaters have entered villages, while authorities have focused on evacuation and the provision of essential supplies. The Chief Minister also visited Bhadrak to review the situation and provide relief measures.

Jajpur: Due to rising water level of Baitarani river several areas of Jajpur district have been flooded. Bari block has been cut-off from the rest areas. CM Mohan Majhi visited flood-affected areas of Jajpur by boat and assessed the relief operation.

Kendrapara: The impact has been particularly worrying for schools and residential institutions and people living along river banks in Kendrapara. Reports said 300 plus students of a government residential school were stranded after sudden flash flood. Water level was seen rising in River Brahmani

Mayurbhanj: In Mayurbhanj, the rising Budhabalanga river has submerged most parts of Baripada and other places. NDRF and Fire service officials have started evacuation operations at vulnerable places.

Keonjhar: Heavy rain has disrupted normal life in Keonjhar district of Odisha. Several  houses have been damaged. Rain persisted in the area, affecting several families, some of them were forced to abandon their homes for safer locations.

Sundargarh: Normal life has been thrown out of gear in Bonai and adjoining pockets of Sundargarh district due to heavy rain. The rain has inundated low-lying areas. Education has been affected as rain and flooding have led to forced closure of schools
