The landfall process of Cyclone Arnab has begun near the Andhra Pradesh coast. The cyclone has started making landfall earlier than expected. Heavy rains and strong winds have disrupted normal life.
Meanwhile, the cyclone has also had a major impact on rail traffic. As a precautionary measure, the South Coast Railway has informed that a total of 53 train services scheduled to run on October 27 and October 28 have been canceled. A 24-hour control room has been set up to monitor the cyclone situation and coordinate emergency situations.
Passengers traveling through Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been advised to check the latest train status.
Several flights cancelled or rescheduled
On the other hand, air traffic has also been severely affected due to the cyclone. Flight operations at Visakhapatnam airport were suspended from the afternoon of October 27, while flights at Vijayawada and Rajahmundry airports were suspended after 7 pm. I
In view of the adverse weather, several flights have been canceled by Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo and Akash Air. According to the available information, 6 flights of Air India and 13 flights of Air India Express have been canceled. Similarly, Akash Air has canceled its Delhi-Bhogapuram flight on October 28. IndiGo has also suspended flights at the three affected airports.
As a result, many air passengers have faced difficulties. Before going to the airport, they have been asked to check the status of their flights with the concerned airline.
The Andhra Pradesh administration has made extensive preparations to deal with the cyclone. At least 89,000 people have been evacuated from the danger areas to safer places. More than 2,000 shelters have been set up for the affected people. Priority has been given to the safety of people living in coastal and low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, the impact of cyclone Arnab has also been felt in Odisha. While rain and wind have been felt in various parts of the state, caution has been advised in the coastal areas. Even though the cyclone is making landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast, its impact is likely to cause rain, wind and traffic problems in Odisha.
However, after the landfall process is over, the cyclone is likely to gradually weaken. But even if the cyclone weakens, the danger will not be averted immediately. Problems like heavy rain, waterlogging, uprooting of trees and traffic disruption may continue.
Therefore, it is advised to follow the warnings of the Meteorological Department and local administration. Now, all eyes are on when the landfall process will be completed.
