In accordance to the latest cyclone Arnab update, as many as four states and one Union territory has been put on high alert by the IMD.
Due to the influence of Cyclone Arnab the four states of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and the Union Territory of Puducherry have been kept on high alert.
However the IMD has added that, the impact of the cyclone will not be the same in all states. Some states are at risk of strong winds and sea waves, while others are at risk of heavy rain, floods and landslides.
Andhra Pradesh is at the highest risk due to the cyclone. Cyclone Arnab is likely to make landfall near Yanam, between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on the forenoon of October 28.
At that time, the wind speed may reach 115 to 125 km per hour. The gustiness of the wind may reach 140 km. There is a risk of heavy rain, uprooting of trees and electricity poles, damage to houses and roads.
Sea tides of 1 to 1.5 meters above normal may occur near Kakinada. There is no forecast for the cyclone to make a direct landfall in Odisha. But due to its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in South Odisha. Especially in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts, caution is required.
Landslides are likely to occur in the hilly areas, waterlogging in low-lying areas and increase in water level in river channels are expected.
Heavy rainfall is likely in Telangana due to the influence of the cyclone. Especially in the low-lying areas and urban areas, waterlogging, swelling of river channels and road traffic is expected to be affected.
Flash floods may also occur in some places. After the cyclone crosses the land, its impact may also affect Chhattisgarh. Heavy rainfall is likely in the southern and central parts of the state. This may cause waterlogging in the low-lying areas and disruption to road communication. Yanam region of Puducherry is near the possible landfall of the cyclone.
There is a risk of inundation of the coastal areas due to strong winds, heavy rains and sea tides. People in the low-lying areas are especially required to be more cautious. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into dangerous sea areas till October 29 as the sea is likely to remain rough due to the cyclone.
The biggest concern is that strong winds and sea waves are the main threat for Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, while rain-related threats are a major concern for Odisha, Telangana and Chhattisgarh.
