There has been a low pressure in the Bay of Bengal today. Rain is likely to increase in Odisha from tomorrow. The amount of rain is expected to increase especially on October 14 and 15.
As preparations for Durga Puja are in full swing, concerns have been raised about rain playing spoil sport. There are favorable conditions for the formation of this low pressure under the influence of an active cyclone in the Andaman Sea and its surrounding areas.
According to the weather department’s forecast, after the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal is formed, it may move west-northwestwards. However, a clearer picture will be available in the next 24 to 48 hours regarding its movement and intensity.
Due to the possible weather change, the sky will be cloudy in some parts of the state. Thunderstorms, lightning and wind accompanied by rain are likely at some places on the October 14 and October 15.
However, the amount of rain will depend on the path of the low pressure. Various weather models are also showing signs of this weather system becoming active in the Bay of Bengal. However, there are differences in the predictions of the models regarding how strong the low pressure will be and how much impact it will have on Odisha.
No Cyclone Threat To Odisha Yet
So far, no cyclone threat has been confirmed for Odisha. On the other hand, construction of mandap, decoration and market preparations are underway in various cities of the state for Durga Puja. If it rains at such a time, the preparation of puja and buying and selling may be affected.
Especially, problems may arise in the mandap work and lighting decoration going on in the open. Although the effect of the rain is likely to decrease by October 16, it will depend on the further position of the low pressure. Therefore, the weather forecast and warnings for the next few days will have to be monitored.
