Hirakud dam opens 2 gates. Due to excessive flood water coming from the upper end. Hirakud reservoir has opened two more gates. Hirakud has already reached its maximum water holding capacity of 630 feet.
It was supposed to be 630 feet by tomorrow but the Hirakud reservoir authorities have reduced it to 630 feet 12 days ago. T
The additional flood water entering the reservoir is being removed through two gates. Currently, the water level of Hirakud dam is 629.93 feet. Every second, 43,569 cusecs of water enters the reservoir, while 68,983 cusecs of water is being discharged into the Mahanadi.
On the other hand, the Indravati and Telengiri Dam authorities asked open damn gates and to reduce the water levels. So that the dams can accommodate water incase it rains heavily in the upper catchment area.
It is worth mentioning here that, low pressure may take the form of a depression today in Odisha. It is likely to reach the South Odisha-North Andhra coast on September 23.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the low pressure area active in the Bay of Bengal may intensify further today and take the form of a depression.
