Traffic jams in Bhubaneswar during festivals is scary. The denizens are questioning that if this is the situation during Ganesh Puja then what will be the state during Durga Puja.
The traffic jams in Bhubaneswar seem endless. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes to travel a distance of just 2 kilometers. Most of the roads in the Capital city of Bhubaneswar have traffic snarls. The routes such as Vani Vihar Square to Shahid Nagar through Master Canteen Square are best avoided. Not only that, heavy crowds can be seen on Patia to Jayadev Vihar Road, Rasulgarh and Acharya Vihar Road.
People have been facing such traffic problems since the beginning of the festival. Especially, devotees coming to visit Ganesh Mandap are parking illegally on the roadside. People are crowding the roads and blocking it to watch the melody programs.
Street hawkers have set up their shops everywhere on the roadside. In the evenings, the situation gets worse as the traffic come to a complete standstill in several places in Bhuabneswar.
The question arises here that if such a crowd is being seen since the beginning of festivities that is Ganesh Puja, then what will be the traffic situation going forward? The Commissionerate Police had issued several guidelines but are the rules being followed? There needs to be a proper traffic management system for the festivals in the temple city.
