Fire safety checks in Bhubaneswar held on Tuesday, violations of the standard practices to draw heavy fines, said reliable reports.
An action plan is in place to prevent fire incidents in the city. Fire safety teams will begin conducting surprise inspections today. Action will be taken against any establishment found without adequate safety measures.
With the grace period now over, all government and private entities must remain vigilant regarding fire safety compliance. Fire safety teams could conduct surprise checks at any location and at any time.
Failure to possess a fire safety certificate or install the required safety equipment will invite strict penalties. A special drive is being launched today as part of the ‘Safe Odisha, Developed Odisha’ initiative. Teams will inspect various malls, offices, cinema halls, and residential buildings.
The Fire Services Department has already issued prior notifications regarding this. The objective is not merely to take action after a fire breaks out, but to implement proactive measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the first place.
The ‘Safe Odisha, Developed Odisha’ campaign has been launched, effective from September 15, to ensure the strict implementation of fire safety regulations. This campaign will continue for a month.
The Fire Department is undertaking multiple initiatives, ranging from surveying buildings that require fire safety certification. It is also working towards establishing an AI-based database, a control room, and a dedicated WhatsApp number,.
It is also working towards providing a toll-free number for lodging complaints regarding difficulties faced during the licensing process.
