Aadhaar linking for DBT has been made compulsory by the Odisha Government. This is a major change and a step towards maintaining transparency in the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes.
So with this major change, DBT money will now go only to Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts. Instead of sending DBT money only on the basis of bank account details, the Finance Department has told various departments to transfer the money transfer system through Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts.
On August 24, Additional Secretary Sagarika Hota wrote a letter in this regard to the departments that are implementing various schemes.
According to the Finance Department, Aadhaar seeding makes it easy to verify the identity and authenticity of the real beneficiary. DBT money can be sent to the account that is mapped with the beneficiary’s Aadhaar. If the data in Aadhaar and bank records does not match then the benefit can be stopped.
The main objective of Aadhaar linking for DBT is to ensure that government assistance reaches the actual beneficiaries and to stop incorrect and fraudulent payments. The departments have been asked to report the status of how much payment is being made through Aadhaar seed account in all the schemes for which the DBT code is available on the DBT Bharat portal.
The letter has been sent to the departments that fund various schemes through DBT, including Housing and Urban Development, Food Supply, Commerce and Transport, Social Security, Forest, Labour, Panchayati Raj, Higher Education, Agriculture, Health, Mission Shakti, School and Mass Education, and Women and Child Development.
